Levels of Urdu Language Learning Proficiency


Language learning proficiency means how much you have the potential and ability of learning a language and where you stand in the learning process. Six main proficiency levels one can face while learning a language.
These proficiency levels tell you where you are lacking in learning process what you need to do extra to improve your proficiency. According to these levels you can adjust and change your way of learning, your courses and tools you are using. Urdu is a very interesting and historical language. Someone who undertakes Urdu learning process will end up going through. 

Level 0: No Proficiency

This is the first step, basic level of learning when a person starts to learn Urdu. In this level you memorize the names of different things and common usage sentences of Urdu language. You recall them again and again and it will remain in your memory. This is an easy level that you should learn and pass this level very soon. Memorize Urdu alphabets.

Level 1: Elementary Proficiency
In the first level you should remember and use some good-natured remarks and chitchat. Memorize different directions and in hotels and food places ordered meals and remember some general tasks like “main kha rahi hun” (I am eating) a general purpose task, “Main so raha hn” I am sleeping.

Level 2: Limited Proficiency
In this level you are able to speak, read and write common and easy sentences of Urdu language. People can understand your sentences. Your accent will not much clear still, but you will be able to participate in some work related interactions. Try to speak slowly and clearly and repeat sentences after your tutor or a person who is native of Urdu speakers. In this way you can improve your accent.

Level 3: Professional Proficiency
On the third level you will be able to understand the conversation of native Urdu speakers. You will have a vocabulary of lots of Urdu words. Your accent now will be understandable more likely, but still you are not expert of Urdu language.

Level 4: Full Proficiency
At this level you are able to read, write, and speak Urdu properly with correct grammar and accent. You can be a good interpreter now. You are able to communicate easily.


Level 5: Native Proficiency
Achieving the Urdu language proficiency like native speakers you should now read about Urdu history and culture so that you can make broader your vision about Urdu.
