Evolution of Urdu Ghazal


Ghazal played an important role in Urdu literature. It’s a colorful part of the Urdu poetry. Through the poetry writers convey a meaningful massage to the society in the lighter and interesting way.  History of Urdu Ghazal has been starting from the ancient Iran.  

The roots and basics of Urdu Ghazal came from the “Qasida “.Qasida is also a part of Urdu poetry. Qasida came from Arabian countries to Iran. In the past Qasida was written in the praise of kings and emperors, national heroes and for the Nobel personalities. 
With the passage of time developed form of Qasida known as Ghazal.    
  
Ghazal is written in the short form not too large. Mostly Ghazal is written in seven or eight verses. In some rare cases its length exceeds to twelve verses.  Due to its short description, diversity, subtleness Ghazal is one of the most popular form of poetry now.
From the Moguls time periods in Asian subcontinent Ghazal got the form of Urdu poetry. With the Muslim influence ghazal extended its popularity and spanned its wings from 12th century onwards. With the Iranian culture and literature Urdu poetry influenced most.  
In the Asian subcontinent Urdu Ghazal is associated and originated with Amir Khusro (1253-1325). In the time of Muslim rulers Ghazal improved and got more popularity. 

There are many great Urdu Ghazal writers who gave charm and glow to the Ghazal. The famous names are Qutab Shah, Wajhi, Hashmi, Nusrati and Wali, Meer Dard, Zoauk, Sauda. The efforts of these grand Gazal masters are remarkable not only for the Ghazal writing but also for the improvement and establishment of Urdu literature. Mirza Ghalib called as a father of Urdu prose .Because of his appealing writing style he got a common name among the Urdu poetry lovers,and Urdu literature flourished. Now Ghazal is the most reading medium in poetry and Urdu literature.
