That was the painful time as her daughter Tazeen died and she was facing that deep pain also. They both husband and wife did not have the time to fight against the injustice of government. Instead of these entire pains and hardships couple continued struggle for the progressive political ideology.
This is not the story of just one writer of that time but it’s a story of constellation of writers. Akhtar Jamal was one among that consolation of Urdu writers and scholars those lit up the sky our national thoughts and mind eyes. Urdu Poets of that time also played huge role in social awareness. Sheikh Ayaz, Sufi Ghulam Mustafa Tabassum, Noon Meem Rashid, Majeed Amjad, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Habib Jalib and lots of other are in the list of socialists and ideologists.
Then the List of Urdu fiction and play writers of that time also played leading role. Ali Taj, Quratulain Haider, Jamila Hashmi, Hijab Imtiaz Ali and Aziz Ahmed are on the top of the consolations of writers list. That time was really a golden period which produced lots of famous writers and historians like Aziz Ahmed. He was very famous for the play, story writing and unique work on the religious and Islamic history. KK Aziz and great sociologist Hamza Alavi and Feroz Ahmed were also the famous names of that golden period.
In that time intellectuals faced lots of hardships due to writings on the social and political issues that’s y our literature started decreasing inspiration and it delinked from the social and political realities. No doubt present intellectuals and poets are also doing good work on these issues but that was very inspirational time of Urdu history due to those consolations of writers, scholars’ and socialists.
Akhtar Jamal was a top story writer in that time but we should not forget the whole consolation of the icons and writers who contributed a lot in Urdu history. Like Habib Jalib, Faiz Ahmed Faiz or Akhtar Jamal were not just writers. They were powerful thinkers as well as representative of society and intellectuals of that period. We all should give tribute to these consolations and also remember a great Story writer Akhtar Jamal in our prayers.
